Yearling Room 12 months- 24 months

Busy boards, counting fingers and toes, block play, sort toys by color, puzzles, comfort/ soft play, music, puppets, outdoor play, fine motor skills, and sensory play.

What should 2 year olds be learning?

Rhyming, songs, and playing games to develop their speaking and listening skills. They will be encouraged to listen properly, to develop concentration, to respond to questions and instructions, and to share their ideas in joint conversations.

Activities include: Sorting, counting, sink flash float, tracing with crayons.

What should 3 year olds be learning?

Introduced to safety scissors. Self help skills, play with other children, sing a song and recall parts of a story.

Learning about numbers and counting, nursery rhymes, playdoh, sand and water play, tracing, writing letters, colors, shapes, comparing sizes, and develop more of an imagination.

Pretend to play- let their imagination run wild! For example, play doctor, play house, etc.

Pre-Kindergarten

What should 4-5 year olds be learning?

Singing, counting, cutting and gluing, math games, puzzles, matching, patterning, playdoh, sensory play, fine motor skills, and outdoor play.

Pre-K 4 and 5 will be introduced to …

Counting, knowledge of colors, shapes and some letters. Start to understand the concept of time, a schedule is a must in any childcare setting. Answering simple questions. Able to talk about one thing that happened during her day.

Understanding what reading is for and what rhyming sounds are. They are able to sit and listen to a story, recount the story as well as answer questions about the story. Many preschoolers can read their own name, and recognize simple words. Early writing skills start to emerge.
